Mmmmmm...... Zombies and Gore.

Do you remember the heyday of the Grindhouse? A showcase for the sick and twisted, unmoralistic filth that makes us smile fondly? The time of the Grindhouse is long forgotten, mostly discussed by film nerds and those rebel souls who dared to make the scum that no one would touch. Good times.
Rodriguez and Tarantino, being film nerds themselves, decided to bring us a modern day Grindhouse. And boy, is it FUN!
The first juicy morsel, and my favorite, is Planet Terror by Robert Rodriguez. The premise is simple: noxious fumes are released into the air turning folks into zombies. It has cameos galore and has enough inside horror humor to make even the most hardcore film buff chuckle. It's crazy, over the top and disgusting. Exactly what you expect from a picture emulating the old exploitation feel.

Rodriguez has fun with the story and the fx are as gory as you would hope. Much love goes out to KNB FX because Greg and Howard constantly push the boundaries. By the way Ghostman and Demon Hunter, there are some hotties bouncing around amongst the zombie horde. Planet Terror makes you wish a good ole fashioned zombie invasion would really happen. One can hope!

The second sinister story is Death Proof by Quentin Tarantino. This is a great story with the underlying psychotic tones provided by Kurt Russell.
You can always count on Tarantino to give us an intellectual swerve onto the Highway To Hell.
The premise to this is simple as well: An ex-stunt guy finds the only way he can reach sexual pleasure is by befriending young women and then horrifically killing them with his "death proof" car. He meets his match when half of his newest group of girlies to stalk are stunt women. This story also has enough film buff nods to keep every fan of film happy. Again, props to KNB for stellar fx. The cast of girls are phenomenally entertaining and the end chase sequences bring a great feeling of femme revenge and exploitation of the 70s.

The Grindhouse is interspersed with hysterically genius fake movie trailers that invoke the spirit of yesteryear's great B movies. Rodriguez brings you balls out action while Tarantino gives you psychotic intellectual horror. Completely awesome if you ask me.
Definitely check this one out but keep in mind the type of movies it's paying homage to and the fact that it isn't suppose to be serious. It's supposed to be fun. Dirty fun! Great job guys.

The website is one of the best I've seen for a movie and has TONS of goodies to mess with. My fav? You can pick weapons and mutilate a zombie and then watch it in playback. Excellent.
