Superstition, Fear and Jealousy
You can almost hear the Rob Zombie riffs kicking in can't you? One of the reasons I love Rob Zombie is because he pays homage to some of the greatest underrated horror films out there.
A college student heads to the remote New England town of Whitewood to gather research so she can write her term paper on witchcraft. Upon Professor Driscoll's (played menacingly by Christopher Lee ) recommendation, she stays at a small inn in town which just so happens to be run by a witch who was burned at the stake almost 300 years prior.
The usual, right?
This is one of the best movies about witchcraft ever made. Bouncing from the Salem Witch Trials to graveyard rituals occuring at the hour of thirteen, the revelations of such rituals and superstitions is presented exceedingly well.
The atmosphere is PERFECT. It's creepy, isolated and soaked in America's dark and sordid history. The entire movie was shot on sound stages which adds a quirkiness to the cursed little town.
This film is stylish even though it had one of the lowest budgets in film history. It's still haunting and entertaining today because you just get lost in the little nuances.
They just don't make them like this anymore people. It's fun, creepy and, of course, Christopher Lee is PHENOMENAL.
So watch it already!
