College student Mattie has a boyfriend who kills himself becoming another notch in the rash string of suicides occurring in the area. Mattie and her friends must race against time to discover the truth behind these events and just what her boyfriend Josh was trying to keep locked up in his computer.
Taglines claimed it as the scariest movie of the year.
Really? There was nothing else out that whole year. Right.
O.k. ghosts coming through electronic devices.
Cool. That's legit stuff. It could be a very creepy movie based on the realism of the topic.
Not really ghost like things breaching our reality to suck our souls and rule the planet in a hap hazard Romero way?
Umm..... kinda dumb.
The ghosts looked like every ghost from the last 10 films puked out and it seems as if the filmmakers couldn't decide what type of movie they wanted to make. Random chunks of whatever's lying around just doesn't cut it.
The visuals in Mattie's ghost world are cool, so I suppose the CG and visual teams deserved a paycheck.
Seeing Wes Craven's name attached to such garbage is disappointing, but I guess he's distracted these days what with all the butchering of his Hills Have Eyes movies.
There is a cameo by the truly awesome Brad Douriff (voice of Chucky, One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest) but they waste his talent. Of course. Sorry Brad.
There is a featurette on the DVD that I have to mention. It's a fantastic piece about electronic devices and the paranormal. Basically it's about how all the new technology allows even more reported occurrences and how electromagnetic energy allows us to see things our minds wouldn't normally see.
It's great info. for those who don't know much about things like EVP and has cameos by John Zaffis, the Ghost Hunter guys and Bobbie Atristrain.
Here's where the BUT comes in.
It was almost an insult to have this featurette on the Pulse DVD. These guys and gals talk about ghostly contact through electronic devices.
Show me where in Pulse it is about the actual phenomena of us being contacted by the dead. I see psycho hell beings trying to merge dimensions and assume control of the planet.
The truth and realism are completely covered in Hollywood B.S. The featurette is included to somehow tie this train wreck to the paranormal community. I'm just sorry it fell prey to the money hungry harlot of the west.
Pulse doesn't have one. Don't bother with it ghoulies. Pop in Poltergeist and relish the fact that you're not wasting time.
To check out the featurette, rent the DVD:
