Mmmmmm... Bad Girls.

Nick Powell, played with lots of WB gooeyness by Justin Chatwin, is a sullen teen tired of being invisible in his own life. Marcia Gay Harden , who is absolutely fantastic in this role, is Nick's overbearing mother who has his entire life planned out.
Nick ends up being set up and the bad girl at school exacts her revenge on him. He comes to only to find that he's caught between life and death with a limited amount of time to get somebody to find his body and possibly save him.

You know what Ghoulies? I actually liked this flick.
I know, I know. You're shocked. The Invisible isn't a thriller or a scary story and it's more an out of body experience than a ghost tale, but it works.
That could be due to the fact that it's directed by David Goyer who has done some fantastic work with comic book franchise movies and adds a nice visual atmosphere to what could have been utter garbage.
It does have moments where it tries too hard to be a thinking man's pic but the universal themes of being lost in one's self and struggling with a sense of hopelessness in regards to one's destiny ring true at any age. I admit, I found myself scanning the background for Katie Holmes or James Van Der Beek,
BUT you should definitely see this film for the interesting perspective it takes.
I
LOVED the complete frustration of being stuck between the living and the dead. To start off thinking you've gone mad or everyone around you has gone mad and then to realize just how alone you really are. You're invisible - completely isolated and forced to watch existence eeking around you.

There's a scene where a bird is on the brink of death and appears on Nick's shoulder. The brief instant of joy on his face and the desperation to bond with ANYTHING else is almost heartbreaking.
It makes you think about the ghosts coming through on EVP or other means and how hard they try to come through, to reach us. Do they realize how lonely and forsaken they really are?
So, check this out for the interesting perspective of Nick being caught in the riff.

Sorry my devilish fiends, there is no gore or satanism abound.
However, the lead baddie, played by Margarita Levieva , will make you sigh and realize just how much you love the bad girls.

Okay, saw this last night. It was good for a drama, but I felt the script was really bad -- and also, they set boundaries, "rules" if you will, and then went ahead and broke them toward the end. As a fiction writer, I could make the leap and come up with all sorts of my own explanations, but overall...this film needed a little red ink!

Don't read too much into it Krissi!!! It's not a film to be taken seriously, as I have pointed out, and the only real reason to see it is to check out the interesting perspective of being stuck in the riff. I know, I know. You ALWAYS read too much into things. That's o.k. You're still the best jello slitherer I know!
